RUA Boutique Hotel

Architecture, interior design, logo, corporate identity, wayfinding and space branding

My client rented a dilapidated 40-room hotel in the city of Piura for a 15-year period. Despite his desire to modernize the hotel and attract business travellers, he did not know how to conceptualize or brand the idea beyond choosing a name: RUA. I conceived the idea of a urban hotel.

As “RUA” translates to “street” in Portuguese, we collaborated with a graphic designer to create a logo incorporating street patterns. This sparked the development of an urban, contemporary, boutique hotel concept with a black and white colour scheme. We retained only the bedframes and some chairs, which we painted black, and commissioned local craftsmen to create everything else, including new flooring, paint, lights, sanitary fittings, furniture, and way-finding signage. When selecting soft furnishings from online catalogues, we were careful to ensure that the shades harmonized. To lend an urban-chic vibe, we enlisted a local artist to produce several acrylic paintings.

The architectural space was a reinvention of the Urban Elite
