Architecture, interior design, storytelling, logo and corporate identity design
This was my own personal venture. I was inspired by the thousands of migrants from Venezuela that arrived in Peru. I wanted to honour and celebrated the similarities between both cultural identities, using design, music, ambiance, colour, décor and food. Arepapa was born as a fusion restaurant of Peruvian and Venezuelan cuisine. The proposal followed a concept developed about a Peruvian potato that falls in love with a Venezuelan arepa.
I restored an abandoned restaurant in the tourist centre of the city. The colour scheme for the restaurant was inspired by the red, blue and yellow of the Venezuelan flag. The vibrancy of colours were drawn from tropical fruits used in the cuisine as well as the colourful facades of tropical architecture. The design of the logo featured a potato, symbol of Peruvian gastronomy with a tropical cocktail umbrella. The corporate identity reflected the “spiciness” of the proposal, as seen in a chilli with a devil´s tail and a tropical party themed brand identity. It was highlighted by the media as it focused on the positive and complementary similarities between Venezuela and Peru.
