Baliyeh - Family Villa and Holiday Rental

Architecture, philosophical concept development, branding, landscape design

A mixed European father and Balinese mother family was to build a villa in Bali and rent it to visitors while unused. I grouped with two Brazilian and one German architect to developed the design for this villa in Canggu, Bali. The key idea was to explore the west meets east concept.

The proposed design was embedded with Balinese philosophical approaches to define the different areas. We applied Balinese traditional wisdom to develop the zoning and circulation routes. Bioclimatic design taken from local vernacular architecture was used to take advantage of monsoonic air flows and hot air exhaustion. There was also a rain wall to incorporate the magic of Balinese rain.  The proposed interior design was related to the colour and material scheme found in the island. For the landscaping we used only native species found in the island.

The common spaces have been designed with an open layout inspired by tropical architecture, but with the flexibility to be enclosed to create a more Western-style atmosphere

Highlight the use of local materials and very local colour schemes
